All Saints Fair in Socuéllamos
All Saints Fair
Beginning of November | SOCUÉLLAMOS
The All Saints Fair of Socuéllamos is a unique and genuine celebration that is part of the most deeply-rooted traditions of this municipality and is the only one that survives in the region, preserving the tradition by which the inhabitants of this village used to stock up to get through the harsh winter: blankets, warm fabrics, tools for farming and harness for animals, and tools for the ‘slaughter’ of the pig, resources with which they stocked up for the whole year.
The days before the ‘All Saints’ festivity, people go to the cemetery to clean, whitewash and prepare the place, covering it with flowers to celebrate the day of ‘Los Difuntos’.
Meanwhile, the carousels, the bumper cars, the tombola, the freshly made popcorn, the candyfloss and the stars of the Fair: the roasted chestnuts stand and the ‘turroneros’ (nougat sellers) are arriving at the fairgrounds.
In a region where tradition and the avant-garde go hand in hand, during the days in which this festivity is celebrated in La Mancha, different sporting and cultural activities also take place, such as the 20th edition of the ‘Villa de Socuéllamos’ Theatre Festival, in the ‘Reina Sofía’ auditorium .
