Castle of Santa Maria del Guadiana

The fortress of Santa María del Guadiana was built between the end of the 12th and the beginning of the 13th century by the Order of San Juan del Hospital, with the clear purpose of exploiting the territory, as well as consolidating its jurisdictional rights against other military orders.

It is located a few metres from the bed of the Alto Guadiana River.
