The Tomelloso Fair and Festivals is one of the most important one in Castilla La Mancha, and takes place from 24th to 30th August. It is a week of Patron Saint Festivities lived at a frenetic pace, in which the local people take to the streets to enjoy a festival that is popularly known as “La Feria” (The Fair).
There are activities for all publics and tastes, such as the Jornadas Agroalimentarias (Agro-food Days), the numerous sports competitions and exhibitions, artistic performances in the Plaza de España and the Jardines del Parque and religious events such as the religious service held in the morning of the 25th in the Parish Church of the Asunción de Nuestra Señora in honour of the Patron Saint and Honorary Mayoress of the town, the Virgen de las Viñas, as well as the procession that runs through the main streets of the town in the afternoon.
The events to open the Semana Grande begin on the night of the 24th, in the Plaza de España, with an exciting event such as the Fiesta de la Vendimia (Grape Harvest Festival), when the first grapes are harvested. Among the cultural events, the festivals open with the celebration of an outstanding International Folklore Festival, while the Literary Contest “Fiesta de las Letras”, a prestigious event that has been held for half a century, is the event that brings our fair to a magnificent close.
